Guangzhou Opera House
The Guangzhou Opera House, located in Guangdong province, China, is a stunning architectural masterpiece designed by Zaha Hadid. Opened in 2010, it stands as a symbol of modernity and cultural richness in southern China.
Selected from an international competition, Hadid’s design, resembling two rocks sculpted by the Pearl River, captivates with its avant-garde elegance. The theater, boasting a freestanding concrete auditorium within a granite and glass-clad steel frame, took over five years to complete.
As one of China’s largest performing arts centers, the Guangzhou Opera House hosts world-class productions, including the premiere of Puccini’s Turandot directed by filmmaker Shahar Stroh in 2010. Despite its hefty price tag of 1.38 billion yuan, the opera house stands as a testament to architectural innovation and cultural ambition, drawing praise for its theatrical yet understated design.
The Opera House hosts concerts and opera almost every day and you can see the shedule on the official website of the opera house. Tickets can be bought on Chinese Apps or via their ticket service phone number on their website.
