Dafo Temple or translated Big Buddha Temple is one of the major attractions in the center of old town canton. You almost can not miss it walking on Beijing Road.
For Buddhist temples, it is common to have a vegetarian buffet. Often this vegetarian buffet is open for public and usual it is very affordable. Most of these affordable buffets will still come with a huge variety of decent to good dishes. Big Buddha Temple on the other hand is not on the cheap side, as you pay almost 150 yuan per person, compared to 20-30 yuan in other temples.
On the plus side, you will have some more options and the environment and restaurant look really good and clean. Most others definitely come more with a canteen feeling.
In regard of the choices you get in this vegetarian buffet in Guangzhou, you could say there are two sides to it. The Chinese food was good, with some dishes very good. Absolutely nothing to complain and some dishes like the small changfen where really good. However, the western food section, which is what makes this buffet stand out to others, was maximum “ok”. The cakes and pastries where 100% factory made and tasted a bit old.
Overall, we do can recommend to go there if you are up for Chinese food, as the choices were lot and taste was good. If you are travelling it could be a great experience, if you live here, you might be more interested in a a more budget friendly choice.
