Baiyun Mountain (白云山)

Baiyun Mountain, translated White Cloud Mountain, sits just north of central Guangzhou. Standing 427 meters tall and covered with lots of greenery has earned it the nickname “City’s Lung” due to being very close to the city and nowadays even being inside the city.

Baiyun is a popular scenic spot since ancient times and still is one of the first things you hear when you search for “things to do in Guangzhou”.

The way up the mountain is mainly paved yet there are smaller hidden routes that can be climbed. These smaller routes can lead to very beautiful and calm spots as most people just walk the main route. We highly recommend Jiulongquan (九龙泉). You can find it via signs on the site or maps on your phone.

On top which can also be reached by cable car, you will find many stores, restaurants and a nice view over Guangzhou. If you come outside the peak times you might find people doing Tai-Chi or Kung Fu.

For all the sport lovers, running up the moutain in the early morning is one of the best runs I made in Guangzhou. The distance is not to long, making it a perfect hill workout.

As the area is famous for Kung Fu,  you can find wise looking old Chinese doing Kung Fu up the mountain. In front of the temple while sunrise. Magical moments.
