Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area
“Baiyun Mountain” in Guangzhou, the White Cloud Mountain is more than just one peak. The whole area contains numerous paths, sites and things that could easily fill one week to explore.
Parks
Let us go easy on our nature adventure at the beginning and talk about the numerous parks in and nearby the Baiyun Mountain in Guangzhou.
The first one to mention would be Yuntai Garden which is a flower garden with an overwhelming amount of flowers decorated in vast shapes and forms.
And then there is Luhu Park, a bit south of the Mountain, however it is the starting point of the whole scenic area and includes the Luhu Lake. Visiting Baiyun Mountain we recommend to take the public transport or car to Luhu Park and then walk from there to the Baiyun Mountain entrance.
Hiking
True hikers would probably look up if I mention hiking and Baiyun Mountain in one word, but this is just true to the main path and main Peak, Baiyun Mountain itself. There is a concrete road up to the top, and even the small paths left and right from the main path are fairly well maintained. We definitely recommend taking these paths left and right from the main road.
However! The whole mountain range has peaks that are not that well touristic and offer a good hiking experience, and you could even hike from the north site like Liu Pian Mountain up to the south of Baiyun Mountain. We recommend to use hiking apps, where you can find numerous routes.
Religious Sites
There are several temples and smaller religious sites near the main peak, as the Baiyun Moutain has historical significace for the city. When you open a Chinese Map-App like Amap or Baidu, you will see many small paths leading from the main road. Almost all of them are well maintained and easy to walk. On the plus, they are usually way less crowded.
Highlight for us is Jiulongquan (九龙泉), especially in the morning when the sun rises or in the evening at sunset.
