Luhu Park

Luhu Park is a large Park area around the Lake “Hu” which is where the name comes from. “Lu” meaning Lake and “Hu” simply the lakes name.

As it is an area not only famous or tourist but also a cultural center of Guangzhou, you will find this Park very well maintained and kept clean. You can also dine traditional Cantonese dim sum right at the lake or go Bird watching.

The whole area spans several green spaces that melt into each other. This includes the Southern foot of the Baiyun Mountain which is where the Lake Lu starts. Around the lake you will find a beautiful built park with lots of birds and tropical plants. Directly besides the Luhu Park is the Xian Xinghai Garden containing the Honghulou Pagoda as well as a direct connection to the Guangzhou Sculpture Garden. Yuexiu Park as well as the Guangzhou Yuntai Garden are in walking distance as well.

The Lake "Hu"

The Lake Hu or Luhu is supprisingly full of wildlife. It will take just minutes to spot turtles, swans, fish and many other birds or insects. Which is also why you will find many people with huge camera lenses, trying to get wildlife pictures around Luhu in Guangzhou.

But not only wildlife is widely spread, you can also find a variety in the fauna, which includes many flowers, including the famous yellow flowers on trees at the lake side, which attract many locals for taking pictures. Lake Hu is definitely one of the nature spots to visit in Guangzhou.

The Pagoda

The Pagoda or Honghulou lays right on top of the Xinghai Park, which is a park contributed to the Chinese composer Xian Xinghai. The park itself is even more beautiful in terms of landscape architecture, however it is quite small and serves as gateway to the Pagoda as well as the Sculpture park, which is worth its own article.

The Pagoda is on top of a 5-10 minutes stair climb and beautifully restored. We also found it was very refreshing on top as the wind blew right through it. But what was most stunning is that the view over Guangzhou was even better than from nearby Baiyun Mountain. So in case you are looking for a nice panorama of Guangzhou from a place which is much less frequented. Honghulou Pagoda is your place to go.
