Shuisheng Reservoir
Sawing several pictures of this place in my Biking WeChat group, made us curious to visit this place. We did not expect it being even more stunning as it looked in the pictures.
The last 1-2 km road to the reservoir already is a freshly made road through the mountains and covered by trees. We took the bikes and the last bit of the ride was stunning.
After we arrived on top, we were greeted by a beautiful dam from which we could see the whole reservoir. Starting from there we took several rounds with our bikes as one round is just 5-6 km in total. 9k if you have a gravel bike and take the outer loop.
The route around the reservoir is hilly, curvy and covered by new asphalt. Mountain and bamboo forest on one side, water on the other side. What a dream to ride through.
If you are not a fan of riding a bicycle, the area has many hiking trails to offer. You can first stroll past the lake on the road and then take a turn up the mountain with even more stunning views.
Be aware that there are not many food stalls nearby. The area belongs to a large hotel and the only food we saw was still swimming in the water.
We took a car close before he reservoir, but the last 10km of the drive looked decent for a bike ride as the roads were wide and empty. On the way back we rode a few kilometer on the road back and took a car from there.
