Beijing Road Cultural Zone
Named after an old road going through old canton china from the north to the south, this cultural zone is now home to Guangzhou historical sites and modern and young Chinese stores. A broad variety of architecture and food from old to new.
Historical Sites
As this whole area used to be the city of old Canton China, Beijing Road Cultural Zone is home to many Guangzhou historical sites. Some of them easy to spot on the main roads, some very hidden in small alleys nearby. But no worry we will guide you as well as the Guangzhou Government, who put signs to all major and small attractions.
Sites to mention:
DaFo Temple in the middle of the pedestrian street, which is a very impressive building.
Nanyue Kingdom Museum at the north part of the Beijing Road Pedestrian Street, right across the other side of Zhongshan Road.
Beijing Road itself has is covered by Glass in the middle on its northern part, showcasing parts of the old road below.
Yaozhou Site (药洲遗址) A old garden with lots of turtles, hidden from the main path, so most of the time not crowded. Inside you can find a Cafe and have a sit and relax.

Restaurants & Streetfood
The whole area is cut through by Beijing Road from north to south and smaller Shopping streets from east to west. So you can imagine how many food stalls, restaurants and cafes there are. Endless!
Anyway after years of strolling through the area, here a few we want to highlight.
Tiger Prawn, which is a Vietnamese restaurant with a huge menu and lots of tables. Even though it is huge in size, at night you need to line up. That’s how tasty it is.
Renxin Old Store (仁信老铺) is the go-to for local sweets like double skin milk and other Cantonese specialties. Definitely worth trying and not to “weird”
Cold Fish Skin (凉拌鱼皮是) is one of the local Guangdong province specialties, and can be found throughout the area in smaller stores.

Shopping
Shopping in Guangzhou is something we need to talk about in an article that features the most popular pedestrian street in Guangzhou. Apart from a few malls hosting major brands, you can also find large brand stores on the pedestrian street itself. Especially sport clothing brands.
Further down south, on the side roads you can find knock-off brands for clothing but also watches and other products are up to offer. As a foreigner you might also get approached by their sales personal and offered fake watches and clothing. Be sure to bargain about the price though.
